Hey guys! I'm Kenish, also known as That Art Nerd. I'm a vibrant artist whose practice spans oil paintings, graphite drawings, Procreate illustrations, and large-scale murals. I love to create work with meaning. I have a story to tell and I love for my work to tell stories as well. The goal is always to grow and I invite viewers to do the same.
I believe that art is a powerful tool and I draw inspiration from my heritage and lived experience. Alongside my studio practice, I've worked as an art educator for 9 years, sharing my passion for creativity with the next generation. Once an educator, always an educator!
My career includes residencies with the City of North Charleston and Redux Contemporary Art Center, an invitational exhibitions at Public Works Art Center, a live painting collaboration with Beeple Studios and more. I've exhibited nationally and internationally, including group shows at the Oculus in New York City, London Tower Bridge, and exhibitions across New Jersey, California, Oregon, and North Carolina, as well as a solo show in Michigan and in my home state of South Carolina.
I received my BA in Studio Art (English minor) from Claflin University and my MFA from Howard University. Beyond the studio, I enjoy cooking, working out, board games, reality tv, true-crime podcasts and spending time with my loved ones.
